Message from the President Many
of you would have received an email from TNSW announcing the
commencement date for the construction of the pedestrian lifts at
Beecroft Station. The Wongala Crescent lift is proposed to be relocated
from the southern side to the northern side of the subway adjoining the
commuter car park. I did suggest this location three years ago in the
Trust’s submission but was told at the time the underground services
were in the way. Anyway, I guess the initial constraints have now been
overcome. The important announcement is the retention of the pedestrian
ramp in Wongala Crescent. Our local State Member for Epping Dominic
Perrottet was a strong supporter in our campaign to retain it. The
project has been over three years coming but as the saying goes, good
things come to those who wait!
I
am still liaising with Dominic Perrottet on three other matters. The
saga of the regeneration of the bushland on the former Metro haulage
road behind Cheltenham Oval frustratingly drags on. Hornsby Council
won’t accept the handover unless funds are provided by Metro for the
completion of the project. It would appear the Metro Project team have
been disbanded because TNSW consider the project is complete! So, based
on TNSW policy, Dominic has to formally approach TNSW to get closure on
the matter. In the meantime, the weeds are thriving.
The
M2 road noise issue has temporarily stalled with TNSW stating that,
based on their measurements taken after the completion of the widening,
the noise levels were acceptable. The Trust, including Dominic, is not
satisfied with this reply and we will continue to work together and
pursue the issue. By the way, the offer is still open for anyone who has
an M2 noise issue at their house to register their concerns with me.
The
lack of street lighting on the Murray Farm Road Bridge over the M2
should be repaired by the time this enews is released. Thanks to
Dominic, residents who have been complaining to Ausgrid for over 3 years
are finally getting a result. It begs the question though; why do we
have to go to such lengths and use our local member to get basic
maintenance issues like street lighting repaired? You may recall I
had a similar complaint about a blocked sewer main in Beecroft that our
previous Member Damien Tudehope was able to resolve. That problem
only took 20 years to rectify.
I’ll be leading our Spring Walk next Sunday the 13th, commencing
at Cheltenham Oval at 2pm. An opportunity for you to inspect the latest
improvements in our precious bushland that we are fortunate to have
within walking distances to many of our homes.
Please continue to take care and, like me with the campaign to retain the ramp at Beecroft Station, patience can be a virtue.

Spring Walk on Sunday 13th September 2020 The
Covid 19 pandemic caused the Trust to cancel our traditional Autumn
Walk, the first time in many years. The Spring Walk will inspect
the recent improvements in the bushland around Chilworth Reserve.
The walk will be circular in nature, commencing at 2pm and finishing about 4pm at the netball courts at Cheltenham Oval. We
will be following designated walking tracks through as far as Burns
Road South. Please come suitably dressed for the weather and track
conditions. There will not be a formal afternoon tea due to the
Covid 19 restrictions. However, you are welcome to provide your own
refreshments.

October) with the Rotary Club of Beecroft. Together, let us recognise
the contribution of elderly persons to our community and foster
connections between younger and older age groups. Join our movement by

National Tree Day – Beecroft Village Green As
advertised in the last eNews, last Sunday afternoon
representatives from our local community planted three advanced Sydney
Blue Gums. No fuss, no speeches, but a chance to catch up and have a
chat in these difficult times. A big thank you to Hornsby Council’s
Parks staff for the preparatory work.

Hornsby Council news Hornsby council business papers for Wednesday 9th September have two items that should be of interest to readers. CLICK HERE and scroll to the bottom of the page to access the agenda and attachments. The
release of the Rural Lands study listed as item 12 may interest some
readers , but item 2 ‘Sustainable Hornsby 2040’ should be of interest to
all residents of 2119. Council has prepared a number of draft
sustainable strategies for public exhibition. This is about strategic
planning for the next generation and includes themes on urban forest,
biodiversity, water, mobility, waste and climate. This strategic
approach flows out of the Local Strategic Planning Statement that
Council adopted last year. The State Government’s regional and district
plans contain the higher level overarching strategies that direct
Council’s papers.
Expect similar strategies coming out of Parramatta Council.

Cherrybrook Metro Station rezoning proposal Landcom
has been appointed by the State Government to commence the rezoning
process for the State Government owned land located around Cherrybrook
Metro Station. The Landcom brief only includes the land in State
Government ownership. The Trust understands both Hornsby and Hills
Councils want to take a proper strategic approach and include the
adjoining lands so issues like traffic and road layouts are properly
researched. An MOU was signed by all three parties some time ago, but
the State Government is not prepared to adopt this strategic approach
now but simply go alone. Such an approach by Landcom is similar to the
approach the State Government adopted for the Mirvac owned site for the
former IBM site on Coonara Avenue. The documentation can be
